The Great Gastby project: 1920's Parties

So what do you think the people in the 1920’s do for entertainment? Not much because the people in the 1920’s did not have the technology that we have to day (such as tv, computers, video games, etc.) to keep them entertained. In fact there wasn't that many things to do in the 1920’s.The some of the only things they can do were boring, but most things were pretty fun back than such as listening to the radio, hanging with friends, going to the theater, etc. Most of though fun things would be fun if you were living in the 1920’s, but the most fun thing to do in the 1920’s and today is to go to a party. The only thing that's different between today and the 1920’s parties the were planed differently in the 1920’s.

Back then the 1920’s the people were very proper, not like wield and crazy like the people there are now. In fact the music was proper too. There was no electric guitars or bass guitars or any thing like that is in a common rock band you would find to day. The only thing they would have at an 1920’s party for music is an orchestra. In an orchestra there is many instruments that play in an orchestra. For the brass there are trumpets, french horns, trombones, and tubas. For the woodwinds clarinets, flutes, bassoons, and oboes. Next the strings and there are violins, cellos, violas and harps. Finally the percussion instruments which are cymbals, snare drum, bass drum, and timpani. Thous are all the instruments that play in an orchestra. So back then an orchestra would play at a party. Back in the 1920’s that was the best music back then. The people of the 1920’s would dance to this music and this dances name is were weird.

The people in the 1920’s would dance to this music, the dance is called the Frisco. The Frisco was named after this person named Joe Frisco (Louis Wilson Joseph). Joe Frisco was comic who used a cigar and derby in his act. I don’t now why they named that dance after Joe Frisco because he’s a comic and not a dancer. I guess its to late to change the name, but being named after the dance was a great honor for him.

In the 1920’s there was not many theme’s for a party then, but the most common theme was a kind of fancy theme. The girls had dresses on and the boys would have tuxedos on. There probable wont be that many decorations on the walls, but the only thing that might be on the walls would be colored lights. The colored light are not like the lights that flash on and off, these lights are like Christmas lights. Now the tables, they have more things on them. On the tables there are four wine glasses, silver ware and napkins for every table (6 or more depending on how many people sit at a table), also a candelas or flowers on every table. Usually the flowers or candelas would be located in the middle of the table, also the table would have a white table cloth. The only problem with a white table cloth is that the table cloth will be bound to be messy because of all of the delicious foods and drinks.

The food served at these types of party's are not like the food and drinks we have now. Today for a party we usually have snack foods, desert dishes lade out for people, sodas, etc. Then eventually dinner will be put out, but dinner is put out right away. The food that is served at the buffet the 1920’s for a party was hors-d’oeuvre, spiced baked hams, pastry pigs and turkeys. Finally the drinks, there are so many drinks that I can name, but I’m going to say all of the drinks came from a bar the host of the party has.
So the 1920’s are pretty different compared to now. This is mainly what they do in the 1920’s and in Great Gastby. The Great Gastby party is like the parties 1920’s. In fact the Great Gastby is based on the 1920’s.
